Culture and Info-Communicational Processes
Studies about info-communicational processes in the local cultural environment and their relationship with intercultural experiences, from the standpoint of the use and the social appropriation of knowledge in health and related fields. From a relational approach considering info-communicational issues, the group has been approaching the correlations between social networks and textual networks.

Gender, Science, Technology, and Society
This group approaches theoretical issues and produces empirical analyses related to the role, the access and the contribution of women in the Science and Technology field in Brazil. It also deals with the access and use of information and communication technologies by women of different sectors, age groups, and social profiles. In order to do so, different informational sources and bases are used, organized not only by national agencies and institutions (such as IBGE, CNPq, Capes, and SCIELO), but by international ones as well (such as Unesco, Thomson/ISI, Elsevier/Scopus and US National Library of Medicine).

Information and Health
The research group develops knowledge on Information and Technology of Information (ITI) in Health expecting to promote its qualification and usage by health managers and professionals as well as by the people, contributing to decreasing digital exclusion in the country. It comprises studies about political, social, economic, and epistemological significance of ITI in health in contemporary societies; development of assessment methodologies of management and production of ITI in health and telehealth; collaborative networks producing knowledge and practices in ITI and e-Health; training in management, production, and assessment in ITI in health and e-Health; digital inclusion through the use and production of information in health by the people; social relations in cyberspace/cyber culture on health; research, education, and innovation networks in e-Health; SIS, RES, PEP in the context of National Policies of ITI in health; standardization and interoperability; information environment as a support for the decision in health.

Information Technology and Society
This group focuses on characteristics and problems related to the introduction and the development of the area of information and communication technology (ICT) in the country, as well as science and technology in general. It approaches specifically the issues that are related to the present-day situation and perspectives of work and occupation in these areas, aiming at generating indicators and getting more information through IBGE data analyses, CNPq data, and other surveys. It also approaches aspects of use and learning of ICTs, as well as research activities in ICT.

Information, Knowledge and Sociotechnical Change
This research group is interested in understanding the role of information and knowledge in the current processes of sociotechnical change, in their politico-institutional, productive, and cultural dimensions. It sets the dynamics of cooperation and conflict around the production, the circulation, and the appropriation of information and knowledge at the core of contemporary forms of power. It comprises the ongoing scientific and technological changes – particularly the new technologies of information and communication – as part of a more extensive social process, in which information, knowledge, and innovation assume a new centrality. Information, Knowledge, and Society
Understanding of how paradigmatic changes referring to the scientific and technological revolution unfolded, are altered and specified in developing countries, involving: 1) interdisciplinary approach of contemporary changes in material and non-material production, that have an impact on the economic, social, and political organization of society; 2) elaboration of a referential framework of analysis adequate to Latin-American reality and, particularly, Brazilian reality, without assuming uncritically imported models of “information societies” or of knowledge. This group is organized around the issue of innovation and environmental sustainability and its intercrossing with the dynamics of information, knowledge, and learning. This central issue provides scientific coordinates for studies and research in the area of indicators and policies of science, technology, and innovation; networks and information systems; adoption and diffusion of innovation in productive organizations and territories; innovation and environmental sustainability in the global/local context; development vis-à-vis socio-environmental aspects.

Information, Memory, and Society
This group pursues an analysis in a broad perspective of the plural relations that exist between the process of production, circulation, and control of information in contemporary society and that of memory in its cultural and political dimension. The issue of access, recognition, and use of information as “structured and structuring” elements of knowledge and learning is stressed. Therefore, it is necessary to reflect upon the access and circulation of information, their uses and meaning within the scope of the existing memory institutions. Archives, libraries, museums, and cultural centers used as “places of memory” constitute possible fields of investigation. As well as electronic portals and sites, public or private, blogs and social networks. In this respect, it is fundamental to reflect upon the role of a “lato sensu” document and of the information and communication technologies (ICTs) for actions of production and circulation of information as guiding elements in policies and movements appropriately directed by the civil society, of rights and obligations related to memory. Those phenomena not only produce their discourses, they may conform to rereading and reconfiguration of meanings, representations, and powers related to the uses of information as well. Innovation Management
In 2016, after 20 years of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Lato Sensu Course in Innovation Management was created, effectively starting the first class in March 2017; the Post-Graduate Program in Innovation Management was proposed to CAPES, Master’s and Ph.D. degrees and counting on a faculty of 17 PhDs in several areas of knowledge. Regarding education, research and extension the Group of Experts in Entrepreneurial Education was created -G3E- encompassing several areas and having PhD professors capable of disseminating innovation and entrepreneurship in their respective areas, such as Medicine, Odontology, Biology, Oceanography, Industrial Design, Engineering, Nutrition, Chemistry, Language and Literature, Pedagogy and others. Innovation policies were devised using methods of innovation research, models and licensing agreements and technology transfer. In 2015, the ITECS incubator was created. That same year, on October 26, the eighth edition of WCTI took place, and, in November 2016, the Innovation Technical Chamber.

Knowledge Management in Nuclear Sciences
The Knowledge Management in Nuclear Sciences research group studies strategic solutions for the preservation, sharing, and dissemination of knowledge generated and guided by the country’s scientific and technological development in the nuclear area. These studies aim at fostering greater proximity between Science, Technology, and Innovation in the nuclear area and society, in a precise and transparent manner.

Philosophical Perspectives in Information (Perfil-i)
The main objective of this group is to foster the study of philosophical classics and classics in human and social sciences, investigating how they can contribute to the current debate on a large set of issues related to information and knowledge, emphasizing the bases, interconnection, and implications of ethical, political, and epistemological nature, of science, technology, and innovation.

Research Lab on Government and Electronic Business
E:lab is an EBAPE initiative created in March 2001 in order to allow schools to do research and to follow state-of-the-art challenges enforced by the constant changes in the modern economy, presenting and discussing the strategic use of Information Technology (IT) in public and private areas. It aims at doing research, in an accurate and relevant manner, on the ubiquity of ITs in every aspect of management, whether public or private, and at investigating and testing new models of public and entrepreneurial management provided by the use of IT, analyzing these issues in an inter- and trans-disciplinary form, eschewing devotion to fragmentation. This group has disseminated the results of their research work in national journals (RAP, RAE, RAM, RAC, Organizações&Sociedade etc.) and international ones (Internet Research, Government Information Quarterly, Electronic Government: an International Journal, Journal of Intellectual Capital, Journal of Knowledge Management, Journal of Global Information Management, Interna).

Social Technology
Social Technology gets support from innovation processes and in the innovation of social actors that interact from the beginning in creating – according to multiple criteria, scientific, technical, financial, related to marketing, cultural, but, above all, endogenous to the places they are connected to, and committed to aspects of reality, frequently tacit – knowledge that they will use themselves, at the same place where the goods and services that will absorb them will be produced. The proposal of innovation articulates a different logical approach from the supply-and-demand viewpoint. Therefore, ST has to represent a process of innovation from which knowledge created to influence the evolution of problems faced by the group of actors involved will emerge. – Identification and mobilization of local economic interests and vocation? Proposal of decentralized policies (local sharing and prominence) – Identification and incentive to local dynamics (technical, social, institutional, and entrepreneurial networks). The introduction to innovation brings power over production processes where it will be applied; repetition of the application of technical innovation empowers innovative groups as it grants them initiative and capacity to continue innovating, preserving, and increasing their technical autonomy. This has greater value than the possible accumulation of capital that may come from a certain innovation. Social Technology as we are proposing is not aligned with Luddism as it implies science and technology in the resolution of problems and in the efforts of including people who do not have access to spaces where the tools of Conventional Technologies are generated and provided.

Study Program on the Public Sphere – PEEP
The Program of Studies of the Public Sphere – PEEP has been active since 2000 at the EBAPE/FGV, developing knowledge, qualifying human resources, and providing advice to several institutions in relation to the themes developed in their study lines and research such as State Reform and Democratic Governability; Social Policies, Citizenship, and Exclusion; Local Power; Policies Networks; Political Actors; Social Innovation, Urban Policies and Social Inclusion of Favelas (slums): Welfare State in Late Democracies. The general objective of the program is to identify the changes in the relations between State and Society that establish new practices leading to democratic governability, through the institutionalization of public spaces able to ensure deliberative and plural participation of citizens.

Theory, Epistemology, and Interdisciplinarity of Information Science
This research group aims to: 1. Contribute to the consolidation of the scientific field of Information Science; 2. Advance and deepen interdisciplinarity relations, above all in the areas of Communication, Computational Sciences, Epistemology, Knowledge Sciences, Library Science, Museology, Archival Education, among others, while maintaining permanent relations with every other knowledge field that forms, one way or another, its field of reference or application; 3. Reconstruct, model, and evaluate the new epistemic, contemporary, interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary settings, in the heterogeneous context of networks and inter-organizational alliances, offering subsidies for: a) the development of knowledge, methodologies, and techniques in the areas of Knowledge Organization, Information Representation and Retrieval; b) development and evaluation of Information Systems and Services; c) description and understanding of knowledge networks; 4. Update premises and assumptions that support epistemic negotiations of contemporary political actors in new economic, technological, and cultural information scenarios. Historical, economic, and social contexts, in the construction of the object of studies in information.
